Two persons were killed and over 250 injured on Monday at Jallikattu, an ancient form of bull-fighting. The event was organised to celebrate Pongal.

Though the police had made elaborate arrangements at the venue, they had a tough time controlling more than one lakh people who had gathered to witness the event.
There were about 300 bulls from different parts of Tamil Nadu at Jallikattu.
It is an event wherein the participant holds onto the hump of the bull for a certain distance and one who travels longest is declared the winner. The prize money or articles carried by the bull is given to him.
Tourists from Japan, USA, the UK, France and Switzerland were accommodated in special galleries. Most of them described what they saw as 'hair raising' and fantastic. It was all the more exciting as the participants did not wear any safety equipment to protect themselves, they said.
