Anju, the world number five, managed a best leap of 6.54m in her third attempt but it was not enough to land her among the medals.

Hosts Australia made it a 1-2 with Bronwyn Thompson winning the gold medal with a Games record of 6.97m and Kerrie Taurima bagged silver with an effort of 6.57m.

Celine Laporte of Seychelles also had the same distance as Taurima but the latter had a best second jump among the two of 6.55m.
