CPI (M) Kerala state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, who had been briefly detained at the airport in Chennai for possessing live cartridges in his baggage, on Saturday said it occurred due to a "memory lapse".

"It was a memory lapse that I kept the cartridges in the baggage," he told reporters in Chennai before leaving for New Delhi on Saturday morning.
Vijayan said he had removed the cartridges and kept them in the bag before giving his gun to the authorities concerned in Kerala for renewal of licence.
"I had forgotten to remove these from my bag," he said.
Asked why his baggage was not subjected to checks at Thiruvananthapuram airport, from where he boarded a flight to Chennai on Friday, he wondered how it could have happened.
Vijayan had missed the connecting flight to Delhi on Friday after CISF personnel on security duty at the airport found the cartridges and detained him for some time.
He was let off after he furnished the details of his gun licence.
