CAs urged to work honestly

National seminar on taxation gets under way

FORMER PRESIDENT of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) VB Haribhakti said chartered accountants should work honestly to ensure better economic progress of the country.

He was delivering the inaugural address of a two-day national seminar on taxation at Swatantrata Bhawan in BHU on Saturday.

Fiscal Laws Committee of ICAI has organised the seminar.

Haribhakti advised the CAs to stay away from corruption and bribery and continue to explore greater knowledge in life.

Fiscal Laws Committee of ICAI chairman Ved Jain suggested the CAs to follow closely the changes and developments in tax provisions.

“In case a professional does not get his knowledge updated, he gets outdated,” he said.

Chairman of the Varanasi branch of the Central India Regional Council of ICAI Deepak Agrawal delivered the welcome address while chairman of the Central India Regional Council of ICAI Pawan Kumar Goel addressed the inaugural function.

Convenor of the seminar VK Jindal proposed the vote of thanks. Later, during the technical session, eminent CA from Mumbai, Pradeep N Kapasi, spoke on ‘Developers and Housing Projects: Select Issues’.

He discussed various issues, including determination of income of builders and developers, income tax law and method of accounting under this head.

Ved Jain delivered a lecture on ‘Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT): Concept and Compliance’. He dwelt upon various issues, such as applicability, meaning of employer and fringe benefit, valuation of fringe benefit, exemptions, employer specific concessions and need for re-classification of expenditure heads.
