A central excise department inspector has been arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a businessman in Kochi.

Ajay Pratap Singh was arrested by the CBI for allegedly accepting the bribe on Thursday, CBI said in a release on Friday.

As per the complaint to the CBI, Singh had demanded Rs 1 lakh from the businessman for settling his service tax returns.

Since the complainant informed his inability to mobilise Rs 1 lakh immediately, the officer bargained with him and settled for Rs 15,000 as the first instalment, it said.
