Central team assesses damage caused by Laila in Guntur

A Central team today assessed the damage caused to the crops and roads here after Laila cyclone hit the Andhra Pradesh coast in May this year.

A Central team on Tuesday assessed the damage caused to the crops and roads here after Laila cyclone hit the Andhra Pradesh coast in May this year.

The team headed by joint secretary of Union Home Ministry, R Jha, visited seven rain hit villages for assessing the damage to crops and roads caused by the Laila cyclone and torrential rains in July and September 2010 in Guntur, a press release said.

Guntur district administration had assessed the damage at Rs 551 crore.

According to a press note issued by the district administration, Guntur district which was whipped by Laila recored a rain fall of 163 mm against the normal 60 mm in May 2010.
