Attention of the entire city police force is presently more focused towards working out the chain snatching incident near Polo ground recently while the investigations into robbery in the house of Dr OP Bajaj has taken the back seat in cop's scheme of things.

Reason: Highly connected owner of the chain wants the same one to be retrieved by the police.

This demand has put the cops in a catch 22 situation. Chain snatchers in nearly all cases sell the same to jewellers who melt the ornaments on priority to avoid being caught. This makes cop's task impossible. Rare are the situations in which cops luckily get a chain in its original form. In case they manage to get a couple of chains from the possession of the snatcher they usually ask the victim in their priority to identify one of the chains as his or her own even though it does not belong to the victim.

This is done to ensure conviction. While some victims back out others give in to the police pressure. But in this particular case of chain snatching the cops are in a very difficult situation as the owner wants the same chain back.

On the other hand the Civil Lines police besides questioning a few domestic helps in the robbery case in the house of Dr OP Bajaj on Friday morning has done nothing so far.

The most senior doctor, who had been practising in the city for the past nearly five decades, is a heart broken man not because of the cash and ornaments that he lost in this case of loot but because he had been a good Samaritan all his life, helping people in various ways.

To recall when he went out on his morning walk to the Alfred Park on Friday, four persons barged into his house. Besides being armed they also carried an injection to administer the same to the doctor's wife Malti Bajaj who is also a doctor. After smashing her head with the butt of a pistol they forcibly injected her with some drugs to make her unconscious, looted the articles and fled away.

The shocked lady also suffered a heart attack.

On return Dr Bajaj rushed her to a private hospital assuming that she had a heart attack. When his wife regained consciousness she narrated all that had happened. Himself in a state of shock the doctor did not inform the police the same day. Next morning it was brought to the notice of the police after the doctor had a meeting with his colleagues.

On its part cops tried their best to keep the incident under wrap.
However the mediapersons came to know about it a day later and filed the report.
