Chandel?s wife gets pink slip

The Ujjain Municipal Corporation on Tuesday sacked Shashi Chandel, wife of Anil Singh Chandel, who was allegedly beaten up by Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh, reports Sandeep Vatsa.

The Ujjain Municipal Corporation on Tuesday sacked Shashi Chandel, wife of Anil Singh Chandel, who was allegedly beaten up by Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on Monday for intercepting his cavalcade here.

The reason: Shashi had participated in Monday's protest against Digvijay, which was in violation of party discipline. So, the Mayor in Council decided to dismiss her, said Mayor Soni Meher.

Shashi headed the water works department of the corporation that is controlled by the Congress.

Meanwhile, the police refused to register a case against Digvijay despite Anil Singh Chandel lodging a complaint at the Kotwali police station. The police instead advised Chandel to approach a court.

Explaining the logic, superintendent of police Jaideep Prasad cited Chandel's medical examination report, which said there was no major internal or external injury. So, it was treated as a non-cognizable offence that did not merit police intervention.

Chandel later said he would lodge a complaint before a court.

Digvijay reportedly hit Chandel on his face after a group of people led by the latter blocked his car and raised slogans against him.

In a related development, the SP suspended two police officers, holding them responsible for failing to control the protesters.
