A 17-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and gangraped by three engineering students in Chandigarh on Saturday.
The accused, who have been arrested, have been identified as Kulwinder Singh alias Prashant, a resident of Sector 20; Monty Pandwal, a resident of AKS Colony, Zirakpur; and Mohit Subherwal, a resident of Sector 41.
The three are pursing BTech from an institute in Sector 26, Chandigarh.
A case of kidnapping, and gangrape has been registered under Sections 363, 366-A and 376-G of the IPC.
The police said, the victim, a resident of Maloya village, had dropped out of school after Class 9. She knew Kulwinder Singh as she came in contact with him around 20 days ago over phone. They had never met before the day of the incident.
The police said the victim, on Saturday evening, had gone to a Sector-41 market with her pregnant neighbour for medical check-up where she received a call from Kulwinder, who said he was also present in Sector 41.
Kulwinder asked the girl to meet him near the Sector-41 bus stand. After informing her neighbour, the girl left with Kulwinder. The two left for Sukhna Lake on motorcycle, where Monty and Mohit were already present. They took the victim to the forest area of Saketri where they allegedly took turns to rape her.
After the incident, the accused apologised to the victim and urged her not to approach police. Kulwinder was going to drop her home when she jumped from the motorcycle near the lake.
After the victim raised alarm, the accused fled the spot. The passersby gathered around and called police. The victim was taken to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, where she was medically examined.
The accused were produced in a local court, which sent them in judicial custody.
