Chandra Shekhar Azad?s birth centenary celebrated

CITIZENS AND political leaders paid homage to Amar Shaheed Chandra Shekhar Azad on the occasion of his birth centenary on Sunday. City North MLA Dr Narendra Kumar Singh Gaur, speaking at a function organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, said the nation was once again facing threats of militancy which needed to be combated unitedly.

CITIZENS AND political leaders paid homage to Amar Shaheed Chandra Shekhar Azad on the occasion of his birth centenary on Sunday.
City North MLA Dr Narendra Kumar Singh Gaur, speaking at a function organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, said the nation was once again facing threats of militancy which needed to be combated unitedly.

He exhorted the youths to spare some time in serving the nation. “We must take a pledge to fight the terror of militancy and corruption,” he added.

“The activists of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha are ready to sacrifice their lives for the nation if the need arises in future,” said Deepak Mishra, president of the Morcha.

Among those present were Bhola Tiwari, Rajendra Mishra, Dr Kamla Singh, Deepak Mishra, Awdhesh Gupta, Sudhir Upadhyay, Sunil Pandey and others.
Disha Chhatra Sangathan and Naujawan Bharat Sabha also held a meeting jointly under Smriti Sankalp Yatra at Azad Park on Sunday.

Young poetess Katyayni stated that Azad must not be projected as a thoughtless revolutionary. “He too was keen to build a society which was free from exploitation and believed in social harmony like Bhagat Singh and other revolutionaries. He wanted to root out capitalism and autocracy,” she said.

Arvind Singh, convener, directly accused a few political parties of organising shows in the name of remembering the martyrs while in reality they are hungry to hog the limelight. “Azad and his supporters were not involved in personalised struggle. Their attempt was aimed at accomplishing total freedom for the citizens,” he said.

Earlier, the participants took out a cycle rally in the afternoon. A poster and book exhibition based on the lives and thoughts of revolutionaries was also organised near the statue of Azad at Chandra Shekhar Azad Park.

The group also organised a nukkad play ‘Raja ka baja’ which was based on the issue of unemployment penned by late Safdar Hashmi.

The artistes also presented patriotic songs and raised slogans. Those present included Namita, Arun Kumar, Geetika, Pramod, Arvind, Udai and others.
The leader of the UP Congress Legislature Party Pramod Tiwari and UPCC member Shiv Baran Singh paid floral tributes to Azad at his statue at Chandra Shekhar Azad Park early in the morning.

Former MLA Anugrah Narayan Singh, MLA from Meja Ram Kripal, member of the State committee of CPI (M) Harishchandra Dwivedi and corporator Shiv Sewak Singh were among those who addressed another function.

Among those present were Om Prakash Jaiswal, Prabhakar Mishra, Shribalabh Mishra and others.

Meanwhile floral tributes were paid to the martyr by the officials and staff members of Allahabad Museum at his statue on the museum campus.

Speaking on the occasion, chairman Prof RK Verma said that such personalities were born to accomplish important tasks and their birth was a rare phenomenon which occurred at the interval of several thousand years.Prof Verma stated that in future, seminars would be held on the life of little-sung martyrs. Dr SK Sharma spoke on the relevance of the ideals of Azad which, he said, could play a vital role in maintaining unity in the nation.
