Varsity officials launched a special operation with the help of AU flying squad members and the varsity’s proctorial team after receiving a tip-off that a large number of students planned to use mobile phones for cheating during the second shift of the examinations.
“Following the information, we carried out a strict joint search and nabbed 14 students using mobile phones inside the examination halls. All have been booked and we have also confiscated their cell phones,” informed AU Controller of Exams Prof HS Upadhyay.
He said that 13 others students were also caught cheating from colleges and the AU centres.
Prof Upadhyay informed that this morning notice has also been served on RP Singh, a student of BA-III who during his first paper of philosophy on Friday tampered with his roll number and tore off the answer book number also reportedly in a bid to get his copy ‘lost and claim’ benefit of being awarded average marks — a common practice of some students to pass whose exams do not go off well. “The tampering was noted by the vigilant invigilator who reported the matter to us in time,” Prof Upadhyay said.
Seminar held: A seminar on ‘Property rights to women — a step towards empowerment’ was organised by the women’s cell at Sadanlal Savaldas Khanna Girls’ College (SSKGC) on Saturday. Dean Faculty of Arts, Allahabad University (AU) and Head of English Department Prof KG Srivastava was the chief guest while SSKGC principal Dr Suman Seth was the coordinator of the seminar.
Prof Mridula Ravi Prakash from AU’s Department of Philosophy, spoke on the sociological aspects and the odds a female has to fight against. Prof Srivastava left the audience spellbound with his recitations both in Sanskrit and English.
