An alleged contract killer of the Chhota Shakeel gang, who carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, was killed in an encounter with the police in Roorkee in Uttaranchal on Tuesday night.

Tariq, who had 13 cases registered against him, was killed in a joint operation of the Delhi Police and Uttaranchal Police, Joint Commissioner of Police (special cell) Karnal Singh said.
A .32 bore revolver was recovered from Tariq, police sources said adding he was alone in Roorkee and investigation was on to find out the reason behind his presence there.
Tariq played a key role in the sensational murder of a chemist Deepak Sharma last year in Dwarka area of south-west Delhi, they said.
Tariq had come to kill Robin Sharma but killed his brother Deepak in a case of mistaken identity.
Delhi Police had declared Rs 50,000 reward for the person giving any information about the whereabouts of Tariq.
He had been earlier arrested in Malviya Nagar area of the national capital in 1997 with 10 kg RDX, Singh said.
A resident of Rampur region of Uttar Pradesh, Tariq was also involved in a murder case in Mumbai.
