IN A tragic incident, a one-and-a-half-year old child drowned while his parents were playing Holi outside the house in Nishatpura area on Thursday.

Police said the parents had shut the child in and went out to play Holi with neighbours in the Housing Board Colony. As per circumstantial evidences, it seems that the child was playing with a big plastic tub filled with water that was kept inside the house. Somehow he fell inside the tub and could not get out, said Station Officer Sitaram Yadav.

When the child’s parents came back into the house they found him dead. The child was lovingly called Takla. His father Parshuram is a labourer.

In a separate incident, four youths tried to throw a person into a burning Holika in Panchsheel Nagar on the eve of Holi. Ajay, 29, was alleged thrown into the Holika by Shiv Kumar, Dinnu, Hari and others. Ajay received burns and is undergoing treatment in a hospital.

Also, Mukesh, 30, was stabbed by two youths, Babar and Asif, when the former was throwing colour on them on Holi. In yet another Holi-related violence Shankar and Raju attacked Vijay, 20, with a sword because the latter had refused to play Holi with them. The victim’s condition is said to be stable.

Meanwhile, a constable received burns when he tried to save two youths from getting burnt. The wood was damp and taking time to burn so youths were throwing petrol on it. Jitu, 20 and Raja, 25, were suddenly enveloped by the fire but Constable Vijay Minj rushed to save them. In the process he received burns on the face.
