The Red Fort in Old Delhi is one of the grandest testimonies of the Mughal splendor. Walking through the Lahori Gate is like walking through the gates of history.

And what better place to invoke the glorious past than the Quila of emperor Shahjahan himself? That is the why the Indian War Memorial Museum has the most appropriate setting, just above the Naubat Khana in the Red Fort.

The museum has a fascinating collection of armors, guns, swords and other war articles. You get a glimpse of the battles of an era long gone by. The museum brings alive erstwhile events that we only get to read about in our otherwise boring history text books.

For instance, it depicts the diorama of the battle of Panipat. You also get to see some of the weapons and dresses used in the First World War. The intricacies of the armors are extremely fascinating. Wach closely and you can get to see many intriguing details in the various articles present at the museum.

The museum was formerly called the Red Fort Museum of Arms and Weapons. There is no separate entry fee for the museum once you are inside the Fort. Visiting hours stretch between 10 am and 5 pm. The museum remains closed on Fridays. So give your history books a break and take a beautiful journey several centuries back in time.
