Hu's four-day visit is the first by a Chinese leader to this Muslim-majority country in 10 years and follows his trip to Pakistan's neighbour India, where Hu agreed to increase civilian nuclear cooperation with New Delhi.
In a sign of the importance placed by Pakistan in the visit, Hu was greeted by the country's top political leadership, including Pakistani President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
