City gearing up for Raksha Bandhan

PREPARATIONS ARE in full swing to celebrate the festival of Raksha Bandhan, which is to be held on August 9. Many makeshift shops have been set up in different localities, including Lanka, Assi, Durgakund, Bhelupur, Sonarpura, Godowlia, Nai Sarak, Lahuraveer etc. Beautiful Rakhis are being displayed at the different shops.

Many makeshift shops have been set up in different localities, including Lanka, Assi, Durgakund, Bhelupur, Sonarpura, Godowlia, Nai Sarak, Lahuraveer etc. Beautiful Rakhis are being displayed at the different shops.

Wholesale markets of Rakhi have also been set up in Harha-Sarai area. Since Varanasi is the biggest market of rakhi, the retail traders from different districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, including Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Ballia, Bhadohi, Mirzapur, Mau and Deoria have started thronging the wholesale market of Varanasi situated in different localities.

More than 50 shops have been set up in the wholesale market of Harha Sarai alone. These wholesale traders are doing brisk business for the last couple of days.

Different types of rakhis with embroidery work, sandalwood rakhis, and attractive rakhis decorated with rice grains are being sold. One of the rakhi traders Vishnu Jaiswal said that sandalwood rakhis were costlier and retail price of this rakhi was Rs 75 per piece whereas in the wholesale market, it was Rs 60 per piece. The price of other rakhis was in the range of Rs 10 to Rs 65 per piece.
