City observes partial bandh
A partial bandh observed against the gruesome murder of the two-and-a-half-year-old boy Chiraag Bajaj on Monday affected normal life in various parts of the city here on Wednesday. The bandh was organised against the alleged police inaction in the incident. Significantly, a large number of children between the age group of three and 12 years staged a dharna at Girijaghar crossing against the murder and also to highlight how insecure they were in the city. The chidlren were holding placards having slogans like ?Police prashashan sharm karo?, ?Sigra SO swayam hatyara hai etc.

Different markets mainly dominated by the Sindhis remained closed in Sigra, Maidagin, Hathua market, Lahurabeer as a protest against the gruesome murder.
The demonstration of children was organised under the banner of Udyog Vyapar Pratinidhi Mandal.
Though Ajay, the family servant of the Bajaj family in Varanasi confessed to his involvement in murdering the child, police were also investigating ‘behind the screen’ conspiracy angle.
Ajay was jailed. According to Additional SP, Varanasi Nachiketa Jha, the confession of the accused was almost final and there seems no one other person behind the murder.
Meanwhile, Sigra police registered case against 30 persons and many unnamed persons holding them responsible for Tuesday’s violence in post station, damaging property.
It may be mentioned that as the news of the murder spread in Sigra area on Tuesday, the residents gheraoed the police station and damaged some property in protest.
The mob was demanding immediate suspension of in charge police station for inaction in the case.
