CHIEF MINISTER Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Sunday, transport systems of all major cities of the State would be made convenient and smooth through application of modern techniques.
The Chief Minister inaugurated a workshop on Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS), in Bhopal on the basis of which star buses are plying in Indore and Bhopal. Similar bus services will be started in Jabalpur and Gwalior by forming companies very shortly.
Chouhan said it was the need of the hour to provide obstacle free transport to citizens of the State. He said proper transport arrangements would be made keeping in view conclusions obtained through research.
The star city link bus service and rapid transport system will be encouraged to check the ever-growing pressure on transport in major cities.
Mayor Bhopal Sunil Sood, chief secretary Rakesh Sahni, DGP Anand Rao Pawar, several senior officers and prominent citizens were present on the occasion. Director of Urban Development Ministry of the Union Government S K Lohia also expressed his views.
IIT Delhi professor Geetam Tiwari presented her research on rapid transit system, which was followed by various countries. The rapid transit system followed by almost 35 cities of the world has not only accelerated speed of transport but significant change has been noticed in the living style of such cities.
She particularly stressed the need of keeping separate tracks for pedestrians, bicycles, motorbikes, cars and buses and to keep the bus route in between.
