According to an official release by the company, the municipal corporations and councils of these cities have invited tenders from companies to install electricity conservation equipment in the streetlights after a decision to save electricity was arrived at in a workshop organised by the MPSEB. The workshop was organised to discuss demand site management and measures to save electricity.

Addressing the workshop, Chairman MP Electricity Distribution Company Central Zone, Bhopal Ajit Kesri explained the importance of Demand Site Management. He added that most of the municipal corporations today are going through financial stringency and thus measures to save electricity in every possible way should be discovered.

He also explained the benefits that the electricity saving equipment would provide. After the scheme is implemented there would be a fall in the electricity billings, he added.

After the implementation of the electricity saving devices in Ujjain and Indore, there has been a decline in electricity consumption by 81 lakh units and 28 lakh units per year respectively in these cities.

Buoyed by the encouraging results, the company has decided to expand the programme covering other civic bodies, he added.

Senior officials from the municipalities and corporations of Astha, Dewas, Sehore, Jabalpur and Bhopal participated in the workshop.
