State election commissioner, R Parasuram while addressing the media said that the second phase recorded 76.57% voting. Nine local bodies witnessed voting above 90% while 63 civic bodies registered voting above 80%. There were 65 bodies that saw 70% and above voting while there were only six civic bodies that witnessed voting between 65 to 70%. High voter turnout could also be gauged by the fact that there were 55 polling booths across state that witnessed queue even after 5pm.

An irritated woman voter threw an EVM at polling booth number 32 in ward number 22 of Katni, said Parasuram. However, there was no damage to the EVM and the data remained intact, therefore election commission did not take any action against the woman voter. Police officials have held the woman voter for further interrogation, added Parasuram.

In the second phase, 96 EVMs were changed during voting across state due to glitches. These machines were changed within half an hour. Illicit liquor worth Rs 1.63 crore was seized during this election, from the day of implementation of model code of conduct till date, said Parasuram.
