CJM orders FIR against ex-SSP Sabat

THE COURT of the Chief Judicial Magistrate PN Srivastava has ordered registration of an FIR against former SSP of Varanasi SN Sabat, two inspectors and two sub- inspectors, in connection with the gunning down of a criminal Krishna Deo Chaubey alias Chhedi Chaubey two years back here.

The court has also ordered the station officer of Cantonment police station to lodge an FIR and submit its copy to the court.

The cops against whom the cases would be registered, included former senior superintendent of police of Varanasi and present DIG of Inter- state Border Security SN Sabat, sub inspector Samarjeet Singh, sub inspector Babban Yadav and inspectors DP Shukla and RK Singh.

It is to be noted that Chhedi had been gunned down by the cops in an encounter in Varanasi on December 14, 2004. The deceased was a resident of Govindpur village of Mardah police station area in Ghazipur district.

After the encounter, Chhedi’s widow Pushpa Chaturvedi had alleged through an application in the court that her husband was killed in a fake encounter by cops when she along with her sister- in- law and husband was going to a doctor in Maldahiya area in a car.

Pushpa Chaturvedi said that her husband was driving the car. As they reached Nadesar area, some cops waylaid the vehicle, made rest of the occupants run away and later killed her husband Chhedi Chaube.
