Talking to Hindustan Times, Patni said, “With the metro status being bestowed upon Kanpur, my first task will be to restore sanctity of the city.”

He said that timely disposal of garbage from the city roads would take precedence over all other activities of the KMC, said Patni and added that the KMC officials would have to extend their full cooperation for the work.

The mayor designate said that image makeover of the civic body would also be on his priority list. Replying to a query, he pointed out, “Sustained efforts will be made to change the negative image of the KMC. I will strive for a people-friendly civic body and expect the KMC staff to put in their efforts for the same.”

Commenting on the Vidhan Sabha election scheduled to take place in March next year, Patni said, “The mandate of the masses in the local bodies’ election will be a trend-setter in the Vidhan Sabha poll.” He said that party members would work hard to repeat the success in the State Assembly poll.

Patni also dubbed his victory as a victory of all the leaders and workers of the party. It may be pointed out that low profile Patni emerged the party candidate at the eleventh hour.

His candidature was a result of infighting between the two party factions led by former party MP Shyam Behari Mishra and Neeraj Chaturvedi, who later switched over to the Samajwadi Party and contested the election as an SP candidate.

However, Chaturvedi finished at a poor fourth spot. “All political parties must emulate the trend set by BJP and file dedicated party members as their official candidates in the coming Vidhan Sabha elections,” remarked Patni.
