LAUNCHING THE election campaign for the Samajwadi Party, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday asked the youths of his party to change their behaviour and language to win over the masses. Yadav said there was no time left and the ball should start rolling without any further delay.

Addressing workers at the party headquarters on completion of three years in power, the CM said the next assembly elections were a major challenge to the party. He, however, said the party could come back to power by properly propagating the achievements of the government.
Falling back on youth support to retain power, the chief minister asked them to change their attitude and shake off “satta ka nasha” and be humble to people. The chief minister’s plea comes in the backdrop of a large number of complaints against workers from various parts of the state.
Enumerating the achievements of the government during the last three years, the chief minister claimed that there had been improvement on all fronts in the state. He, however, targeted the opposition for carrying out a tirade against him. Yadav said the Congress, the BJP and the BSP were scared of the rising popularity of the party and had joined hand to dislodge him from the power. Later talking to newsmen, Yadav said he was satisfied with the three-year performance of the government.
Yadav, however, refused to comment on the non-participation of ruling ally Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) in the function.
Despite efforts, RLD president Chaudhury Ajit Singh did not turn up at the function. About RLD’s criticism of the government, the chief minister said the government was open to its suggestions.
About the high court seeking clarification from the government on the official security to mafiosi and other private individuals, the chief minister said situation would be reviewed in the light of the court order. He said unnecessary security would be withdrawn.
Addressing the meeting, SP general secretary Amar Singh flayed former Prime Minister VP Singh for his campaign against the Yadav government. He said Yadav had always fought for the farmers. He said for the first time state government ensured full payment to sugarcane farmers. He said Dadri power project had been deliberately delayed by the Central government.
SP vice president Janeshwar Mishra asked the workers to be ready for the election. He also attacked VP Singh for his anti-Yadav campaign.
Youth wing chairman Akhilesh Yadav, SP state unit chief Ramsaran Das and other ministers also addressed the meeting.
Babus make a beeline to SP HQ
SENIOR IAS and IPS officers, led by chief secretary NC Bajpai and DGP Bua Singh, made a beeline to the Samajwadi Party headquarters here to participate in the function to celebrate SP’s three years in office.
While the chief secretary and DGP shared dais with Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, party leaders Janeshwar Mishra, Ramsaran Das, other officers sat in the officers’ gallery.
This was perhaps for the first time that bureaucrats not only attended a function at a party office, but lauded the achievements of the Yadav government.
Mayawati’s birthday on January 15, 2003 was also celebrated as an official function and the then chief secretary DS Bagga had issued invitation but the function was not held at the BSP headquarters. It was organised on the La Martiniere ground. The issue had then attracted sharp criticism from the officers.
nviting Bajpai to speak on the occasion, senior party leader Mohan Singh said the function would be incomplete without official presentation of the achievements by the chief secretary. Addressing the SP workers, Bajpai said what Yadav government had achieved in three years, no government could do in the last 30 years. Bajpai also sought to give official seal to party’s slogan of Uttar Pradesh becoming “Uttam Pradesh”. Bajpai said the chief minister had succeeded in achieving all round socio-economic development.
Claiming that people had confidence in Yadav, the chief secretary said unemployment allowance, Kanya Vidyadhan, special economic zones and payment to farmers were all feathers in the cap of the chief minister. He assured the chief minister that there would be no laxity and carelessness in the implementation of his programmes and policies.
