CHAUDHARI MAHADEV Prasad Degree College (CMPDC) students disrupted classes, forced closure of the college counters and took out a procession here on Wednesday against the harassment of students by teachers.

To recall, Allahabad University Constituent Colleges Teachers Association had observed Black- Day to protest against alleged assault on a teacher of CMPDC, Dr Sunil Kant Mishra, by some students while he was going to college. The teachers also demanded action against the culprits. The students opposed the Black Day and indulged in heated debate with the teachers. They alleged that Dr Mishra misbehaved with the students and used abusive language.

On Wednesday, a large number of students led by CMPDC student union general secretary Anurag Shukla, disrupted classes and forced closure of the counters. The students later took out a procession from the CMPDC to Medical Square and back to the college.

The college authorities, including the principal and members of the proctorial board, tried to pacify the students but in vain.

The students continued shouting slogans against the teachers and stuck to their demand of dismissal of Dr Mishra. Those who supported the procession and protest included Abhijit Singh, Ram Pratap Yadav, Mohd Rashid Sidiqi, Indresh Mishra, Pankaj Singh Patel and Mukesh Pandey among others.

Meanwhile, CMPDC student union vice-president Preeti Tripathi handed over memorandums to CMPDC principal and Allahabad University vice-chancellor regarding closure of the college here on Wednesday.

ECC meeting: Ewing Christian College (ECC) principal Dr Marwin Massey, Bishop Stephen and a delegation of students will hold a meeting at 11 am on September 8 following the demands raised by the students for restoration of their union.
Former president of ECC student union Vikramjeet Singh said in a communiqué that the decision of holding the meeting was taken by the authorities after conversation of AU student leaders and ECC student leaders with Bishop Stephen.

NSS programme: National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Arya Kanya Degree College organised a function on the conclusion of Communal Harmony fortnight here on Wednesday.

The NSS activists presented cultural programmes including silent play, comedy show, folk songs, solo items. The students also recited Vande Mataram on the occasion.
