The severe cold wave sweeping Uttar Pradesh claimed four more lives and pushed the death count to 42 this season even though the mercury showed a slight upward trend on Thursday.

One cold-related death each were reported overnight from Gonda, Farukhabad, Maharajganj and Sitapur districts, sources said.
The weather bureau said Agra was the coldest place in the state since Wednesday with the minimum temperature at three degrees celsius.
The state capital recorded a low of 6.8 degrees celsius.
According to Relief Commissioner Umesh Sinha, over Rs five crore has been sanctioned for distribution of blankets among people to protect them from cold.
Besides, Rs 50,000 each has been santioned for arranging bonfire in every tehsil, he said.
