Collector orders fencing of Sirpur

DISTRICT COLLECTOR Vivek Aggarwal today directed civic officials to remove encroachments from the banks of Sirpur Lake before monsoon and fence off the area to prevent the return of squatters.

He further called for a ban on washing clothes on the banks and urged IMC officials to plant large number of trees to prevent silting caused by soil erosion.

The Collector’s remarks came during a tour of Sirpur Lake on Thursday morning. He was accompanied by Mayor Dr Uma Shashi Sharma, MiC member Rajendra Rathore and senior civic officials.

After reviewing lakeside conditions Aggarwal expressed concern at the use of lake water for washing and bathing activities and ordered the Corporation to put immediately put a stop to this. The Collector suggested erection of a fence on the banks of the lake to deter encroachers.

He advised Mayor Dr Uma Shashi Sharma to raise Rs 30 lakh from MP and MLA Local Area Development funds adding that the amount, together with the Rs 10 lakh to be granted by EPCO to the district administration could be used to finance the erection of the wire-mesh fence.
