Addressing public meetings at Abdullian, Karutona Khurd and Suchetgarh villages, Haque condemned continuous Pakistani shelling on the border causing heavy loss to human life and property. He said the Congress fully stands with the people living along the border and is committed to sort out the problems being faced by them.

He asked the government to take all possible steps to ensure safe harvesting of paddy crop in the border areas.

Haque said the Congress stands for uplift of weaker and downtrodden sections of society and to fight communal forces, who are out to divide people on caste, creed and religion. He urged people to remain vigilant and united against these forces and their false propaganda.

Chib highlighted the problems of refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 and demanded one-time settlement and special package for their rehabilitation.

Former minister Manjit Singh, PCC secretary Manmohan Singh, Darshan Raina and panches and sarpanches of border villages addressed the meeting.
