Mohanty should step down on moral grounds as he had supressed facts in the affidavit while filing nomination, Rajkishore Sarangi, Sureswar Mishra and Sureswar Satpathy, presidents of Sundergarh, Sambalpur and Bargarh district congress committees respectively alleged in Rourkela.

"It is a matter of regret that a person facing criminal charges is continuing as speaker," they told newsmen. When contacted, Mohanty said he had mentioned in the affidavit two cases which he had mentioned in the affidavit. Mohanty had been elected to the assembly from Jharsuguda district in 2004.
