Addressing the gathering, former MLA Satyanarayan Patel said, “Over 70 per cent of our population lives in the villages, and if the BJP Government continues to snatch land from the farmers, it will get routed in the next elections.”

“The State Government,” he said, “has plans to hand over 2,000 acres of land in villages Gandhi Nagar, Nainod, Jambordi Hapsi, Bisnavad, Borhiyabardi, Rinjlaay, Bada Bangrada, Chhota Bangrada and Navda Panth to wily businessmen who plan to make billions by developing special economic zones.”

Comparing land acquisition with acts of hooliganism, Patel said, “The government is not only acquiring land in the name of public welfare, it is also fixing the prices arbitrarily which is highly immoral. Nobody can be forced to part with his property and that too at throwaway prices.”

Patel warned that Congress would launch a major agitation if attempts were made to acquire land in Nainod, Jambordi Hapsi and other villages. “The government should give up the idea of land acquisition and instead waive the electricity bills of farmers and make arrangements for fertiliser,” he said.

Urging the State Government to withdraw cases related to power and fertiliser theft against the farmers, Patel said the government should also consider giving jobs to a member of each family whose land has been acquired for SEZ.

Senior Congress leaders including Rameshwar Patel, Ramchandra Verma, Kripashankar Shukla, Lalit Jain, Tulsi Silawat, Pramod Tandon, Ashwin Joshi, Bhallu Yadav, Shobha Oza and Ujagar Singh took part in the demonstration.
