Pranab Mukherjee has made a complaint to the EC about booth-capturing in Jangipur, as his party demanded re-poll there as well as in 19 booths under the Berhampore seat.
Congress candidate Pranab Mukherjee on Monday made a complaint to the Election Commission about booth-capturing at Sagardigghi under Jangipur Lok Sabha constituency, as his party demanded re-poll there as well as in 19 booths under the Berhampore parliamentary seat.
West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer Basudev Bandopadhyay told reporters that Pranab Mukherjee had made a verbal complaint with the EC about alleged booth-capturing. "Mukherjee's complaints are being looked into."
Pradesh Congress Working President Pradip Bhattacharya sent a complaint to the Chief Election Commissioner TS Krishnamurthy, demanding repoll in booth number 14 in Sagardhighi under Jangipur Lok Sabha constituency, being contested by party's high-profile candidate Pranab Mukherjee.
He alleged that the entire booth was captured by "a criminal, Rahamatullah by name, while Sunil Kumar Chatterjee was the presiding officer".
"We strongly demand re-poll in the booth," he said, calling for immediate action against the police officers present there on duty.
Bhattacharya said that the PCC would also like to demand re-poll in 19 booths in Berhampore and Ketugram under Berhampore Parliamentary constituency in view of complaints of booth-capturing by the party candidate Adhir Ranjan Choudhury seeking re-election from the seat.
He alleged that the police posted there did not take any action against the miscreants.
