The Congress, at its 82nd plenary session, had decided to focus on northern states to revive the party.
The yatra covered 11 districts of Gorakhpur, Basti and Devi Patan divisions. The yatra reached Deoria on Thursday.
Party activists were directed to expose the failures of the State Government to highlight the Union Government’s achievements.
Though the yatra did not evoke a good response, its coordinator and AICC member Syed Jamal claimed the yatra was successful.
He said Congress activists approached the people who had had welcomed the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, adding that its impact would be seen in the upcoming assembly election.
Dr Jamal blamed the Samajwadi Party for polarising society to consolidate their vote bank. He also said non-Congress Governments had neglected eastern UP.
He supported weavers’ demand for electricity supply at fixed rates to them.
