A meeting of party workers was held at the city unit of the party office.
Senior leader in charge of the committee to prepare for the civic elections Jeevan Prakash said the party would stage a Statewide dharna at the district headquarters on May 11, when the next session of the State Legislature begins.
This followed the directive of Uttar Pradesh Congress incharge Ashok Gehlot and State Congress president Salman Khurshid.

Expressing his views on the occasion, Congress Minority Cell State secretary Taukir Ahmad said the party would launch a weeklong programme to mark the death anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi. He expressed hope the Congress would regain lost ground in UP and win back the minority vote bank.

Congress city unit president Chaudhary Irshad Husain and Arun Kumar Agrahari appealed to party workers to ensure the success of the proposed programme. Party leaders also organised a condolence meeting to pay tribute to mother of Congress leader Surendra Kumar Singh ‘Munna’.

Training programme

ALL INDIA Congress Committee member and senior party leader Dr Syed Jamal said training of youth party workers would now begin on May 11 instead of May 9 in Lucknow.

Dr Jamal said UP Congress incharge Ashok Gehlot and Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Salman Khurshid would be the special invitees.

He appealed to all party workers who had participated in training camps at Chitrakoot and Shukra Tal (Muzaffarnagar) to reach Lucknow on May 11 and make the programme a grand success.

Jamal also condemned police lathicharge on party workers at Baitalpur town of Deoria district when they were organising a meeting to express their anger over the murder of Ramkeval Jaiswal and apathetic attitude of police administration.
Jamal condemned the arrest of youth party leader Santosh Srivastav and Piyusth Mani in connection with the case. He demanded immediate release of the party activists.
