The Congress on Friday said the petroleum ministry document leakage was reflective of the BJP-led government’s “non serious” approach to fighting corruption and demanded a “clean and fair” but time-bound investigation into the corporate espionage case.
“The slogan of ‘Na khayeinge, na khane denge’ (Neither would we take bribe, nor would we let anyone else do so) is an empty slogan,” party spokesman Ajoy Kumar said. He questioned the BJP’s silence if the matter of alleged espionage during the UPA rule was in its knowledge when the party was in the opposition. “Why did they not raise an alarm if they knew it (leakage) was happening during UPA2 rule? We urge the BJP... please don’t impose your failures on us.”
The government had earlier hinted at espionage in the petroleum ministry allegedly having taken place during the UPA rule.Another Congress leader Manish Tewari demanded a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the document leakage case.
However, a Union minister said the government has sent a loud and clear message that it will not accept any such act. “It was a well thought out action of the government. Any malpractice will not be accepted. This government is different and will not tolerate any such act. The message is loud and clear. Anyone found guilty of such act — no matter how big he or she is — will not be spared,” the minister said.
A BJP office bearer said, “But, the bottom-line is that the Narendra Modi government will not accept corruption in any form.”
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleged that the Centre is trying to brush the matter of corporate espionage under the carpet and making small players scapegoats. “The Aam Aadmi Party sincerely hopes that the culprits, who subverted the system to get undue benefits will be booked and interrogated in custody,” a statement issued by the party said.
