"Congress will win maximum number of seats and D Srinivas (State Congress President) would win Nizamabad Urban seat with a comfortable margin," Congress Chief Whip in the Assembly M Bhatti Vikramarka told reporters here.

He dismissed Congress MP from Vijayawada L Rajagopal's claim that TRS would sweep the by-elections held on Tuesday, and took a dig at him.

"Rajagopal claimed after last year's elections that Congress would lose Madhira and Palair and other Assembly segments in Khammam district. Congress actually won those seats. Rajagopal should do things that help the party," Vikramarka, the MLA from Madhira, said.

Citing the findings of a survey commissioned by him, Rajagopal on Tuesdat said TRS would retain all seats it won last year.

The bypolls were necessitated as the sitting MLAs --10 from TRS and one each from TDP and BJP -- had quit their posts in support of separate Telangana. The TDP MLA, who quit, had joined the TRS and contested the by-elections, whose results will be announced in July 30.
