The violence erupted in Vellatur village when the Congress workers were taking out a victory procession following their win in the Panchayat elections, which were held on Thursday, police said.

The TDP workers took objection to some of the slogans raised by the Congress activists which resulted in the clash, in which 80 people were injured, police said.

Over hundred hand-grenades were used by both the sides in the clash, according to police.

Security has been tightened in the village as tension prevailed, police added.

In a similar incident, about 20 people were wounded when TDP and Congress supporters clashed using hand-grenades in Solasa village, where the Congress won the elections.

However, there the situation is under control, police said.
