Several office bearers of the party including Satyajit Gaekwad, KK Sharma, Jaikishan, Mirza Irshad Beg, RPN Singh and Bihar PCC President Ram Jatan Sinha joined the dharna shouting slogans like "Sonia lao, desh bachao" (bring Sonia, save the country) and "Sonia Gandhi apna faisla wapas lo" (Sonia Gandhi take back your decision).

Denouncing the statements of BJP leaders like Sushma Swaraj and Uma Bharati, who have raised a banner of protest against Gandhi assuming the high office, the Congress activists shouted "Sushma, Uma hai, hai".

Atmosphere outside 10, Janpath, Gandhi's residence, became charged after reports spread that she was reluctant to accept the post.
