The 15-year-old girl was alone at her house in Sedara village last evening when Govind Thakur, the son of a constable, forcibly entered and tried to rape her, Superintendent of Police D K Arya said.

When the girl opposed it, Thakur allegedly poured kerosene over her and set her afire, he said.

She was taken to Damoh District Hospital where the girl succumbed to burn injuries this morning, Arya said.

A case has been registered against the accused who was later arrested, the SP added.
