The 22-year-old woman spurned the offer and lodged a complaint next day against the jawan with Kotwali police station in Balaghat district, about 430km south east of Bhopal.

The BSF jawan was on duty at Patera polling booth of Balaghat district on Monday. Eyewitnesses said he first asked her name and then sought her phone number. When the woman declined, he forcibly held her hand and later followed her to her home.

Next day the woman approached Kotwali police station along with her father and lodged the complaint, superintendent of police Sachin Atulkar said.

"Since the poll officials and BSF jawans who were on duty at polling booth have left the district, the police are trying to establish the identity of the BSF jawan,” he said.

In another case of sexual harassment, teacher at a private school at Nasrullahganj in Sehore district was sent to jail for 14 days on Wednesday.

The teacher allegedly harassed the girl with vulgar talk and recently wrote a love letter to her on November 16, prompting her, a class 9 student, to narrate her ordeal to her father who in turn approached the police and lodged a complaint on November 24.
