COPS HAVE started collecting details about the shooters involved in the sensational killing of LPS owner CP Singh as the investigating team failed to retrieve a clue leading to the motive behind it. Senior police officials have sought help of their STF counterparts to help trace the shooters involved.
Moreover, members of police team investigating the case were in regular contact of some contract killers presently lodged in Lucknow district jail.
Sources revealed that jailbirds had suggested names of a few of their counterparts active in contract killing. Acting on a tip-off, separate police teams were deputed to Barabanki and Rae Bareli to trace the suspects on Saturday.
Senior cops revealed they had no option but to launch a search for the shooters first, because there was no clue leading to the motive behind the murder. Once they succeed in laying hands on the contract killers, it would be easy to establish role of the conspirator.
While struggling for the reason behind the killing, the police team contacted two of the contract killers behind the bars. The jailed criminals tipped the cops off about a group of youths active in executing killings against contract in Lucknow, Barabanki, Sitapur and Hardoi.
Sources further revealed the inmates provided concrete details about movement of the suspects and their links in the underworld and the political patronage they enjoyed. Senior police officials too have given green signal to the police team engaged in the investigating team to go ahead and trap the gangsters soon.
The police team has been assured rewards if they succeeded in nabbing the shooters. The cops were also keeping close watch around official flats of two ruling party MLAs and a minister as the suspects are regular visitors to these places, sources revealed.
