Counselling put off after student leaders? protest
STUDENT LEADERS of the Harishchandra Post Graduate Degree College, affiliated to the Purvanchal University, staged a demonstration and forced the authorities to postpone counselling for BA and B.Com courses here on Wednesday.
The student leaders demanded a 25 per cent increase in seats of various undergraduate courses and immediate disbursement of scholarship of the academic session 2005-06.
Students gheraoed principal Dr SS Rai and submitted their charter of demands.
Failing to get a positive assurance, they forced the college administration to postpone counselling for an indefinite period.
Students’ union general secretary Santosh Saini said they would intensify their agitation if their demands were not fulfilled. He added they would also meet the Purvanchal University vice-chancellor to press for acceptance of their demands.
The principal confirmed that counselling for BA and B.Com. courses was postponed for an indefinite period due to the students leaders’ protest.
He, however, hoped that counseling for all the courses would be completed by August-end.
Students’ union president Raju Yadav, vice-president Shailendra Pandey and general secretary Santosh Saini were among those who staged the demonstration and forced the college administration to postpone the counselling.
