The young man was identified as Om Prakash Singh (21) of Raghunathpur village in Buxar district in western Bihar. The woman, aged about 20, is believed to have belonged to a wealthy and politically powerful family and a resident of the same village.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the couple were in love and wanted to marry against the wishes of the woman’s family.

The police suspect that some villagers, who learnt of their plan to flee and marry, informed the woman’s family, who allegedly carried out the killings.
