After spendingthree days and three nights in jail, Salman Khan was granted bail by the court of the district and sessions judge, which admitted his criminal appeal for hearing and suspended the sentence passed by the chief judicial magistrate. The court fixed June 19 as the next date of hearing. Salman was released from Jodhpur Central Jail after furnishing a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh and sureties of Rs 1 lakh each. The court also directed the actor not to leave the country without its permission.
Salman wasn’t present in court at the time of the order as he had to appear before another sessions court, in connection with another poaching case, where he has been sentenced to a year in prison.
Incidentally, this court too has fixed the next hearing in the case for June 19. Salman’s brother Sohail, sister Alvira, actress Katrina Kaif and other Bollywood personalities like Govinda, David Dhawan and Sajid Nadiadwala were present in court. Outside, a contingent of the actor’s fans had gathered since early morning. On hearing the news that Salman had been granted bail, the crowd erupted in joy and the police had to resort to mild lathicharge to control them.
Salman’s lawyers told HT that they had drawn the attention of the court to several paragraphs in the impugned judgment of the court of the CJM and contended that its ruling was liable to be quashed as in contained many errors, contradictions and irregularities.
