This year, it is all about ‘quirky creativity’ and ‘humour’, according to the organisers of Maison & Objet, who chose ‘Crazy’ as the theme for this year’s interior design show. The Paris-based biannual Maison & Objet is one of the biggest events in interior design and household accessories that took place in Villepinte, France, from January 20-24 and will be held again in September.

The show helps to set international interior design trends for the following season. While 2012’s theme has been identified as Crazy, this theme encapsulates ‘folly’, ‘humour’, and ‘imagination’ in design and the idea of not taking oneself ‘too seriously’. Maison & Objet has also identified related sub-themes of Sweet Freaks, Art’keting and Dream Box. The theme of Sweet Freaks examines the eccentric side of design, while Art’keting plays on the consumer desire for uniqueness. Dream Box examines the idea of dreams, nightmares and optical illusions.
