IN A bizarre incident, a Shiksha Mitra, identified as Vinay Kol (35), stabbed to death a woman colleague Kamla Devi (32) and also shot dead her seven-year-old son Suraj before shooting himself inside the classroom of a primary school in Baijla village under Bara police station around 3.10 pm today.

There were around 100 students in the school when the ghastly crime was committed by Vinay Kol. Vinay was allegedly in love with Kamla but was dejected due to her relations with two other men.

Reports said over two dozen small children, who were witness to the crime, fainted while the remaining lot were under extreme shock to speak anything.

Many of them kept staring at the ceiling after being witness to the grisly scene with blood splattered on the wall and the floor of the class room. In fact part of Vinay’s forehead was splattered on the wall after it was blown off by the shot he fired at himself.

Kamla’s son Suraj was shot in the chest and reportedly died on the spot but his mother who was stabbed in the abdomen, died later at the SRN Hospital during surgery.

Kanmla and Vinay were both married and had children from their respective spouses. Kamla’s nine year old daughter Kanchan was ill and stayed at home today while her brother and mother had come to school. Suraj was a student of standard I. On the other hand, Vinay Kol too was married with three children. He and Kamla belonged to the same village where the primary school was situated.

They developed a relationship when both went for training together after being appointed Shiksha Mitra in 2001.

The fact that they were in love came to light after several letters and photographs were recovered from one of the rooms in the school. One of the letters revealed that Vinay was frustrated due to his lady love’s relations with two other men. Unable to bear this, Vinay took this unprecedented step which left the whole village in a state of shock and disbelief.

Meanwhile, senior police officers had rushed to the spot.
