Cross damaged in church

A ‘cross’ in front of a church in Kanyakumari district, nearly 600 km south of Chennai, was damaged, reports HT Correspondent.

Official sources on Friday clarified that a ‘Small Cross in the hand of a Mother Mary Statue’, fell when a mentally unsound man tried to dislodge the statue. The church in the fishing village of Chinna Muttom.

The cross suffered a “minor damage" when it fell off. Local people nabbed the miscreant and handed him over to the police, the sources said.

“Only a ‘stick’ in the other hand of Mother Mary was slightly damaged in the incident,” sources said.

The church is housed in a temporary shed and as the surface was sandy, the statue, made of china clay, didn’t suffer any damage, sources added.
