MAYOR SUNIL Sood’s statement that the opinion of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) experts would be sought on running of motorboats in the Upper Lake is likely to deepen the controversy over the cruise boat issue.

Talking to journalists, Mayor Sunil Sood today said that the opinion of Central Pollution Control Board’s experts would be sought whether running ofcruise boat and other motorboats is safe for a water body. The Mayor-in-Council chaired by Sood recently opposed the running of cruise boat and other motorboats.

BMC Commissioner Manish Singh had issued conditional permission for running the cruise boat in the Upper Lake. The permission was issued a couple of hours before the inauguration of the cruise boat by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh.

Now, the involvement of Central Pollution Control Board could create problem. Sood is also getting support from a section of Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on the issue. BMC chairman Ramdayal Prajapati has opposed the running of cruise boat pleading that the water of Upper Lake is being used for the drinking purpose.
