Datia girl in Guinness Book

Seema Bhaduria is the regular girl next door. Only, she believes in doing things differently. On Friday, the pretty 21-year-old created a record by pulling a 420-tonne boat with her teeth over a distance of 100 metres in Mumbai.

Pleasant and affable, Seema’s face assumes inexplicable otherworldly shades whenever the girl tries pulling things with her teeth. On Friday, the contortions became almost maniacal when she hauled ‘Anukool’ at the Mumbai Port. For the last 15 days, the gangly girl from Datia in Madhya Pradesh had been practising for the feat.

But on Friday, when she finally achieved the feat, there were no media observers. So, around 12 noon, surrounded by hordes of onlookers and television cameras, Bhaduria performed the task again. “It feels nice,” she said after the cameras and photographers had disappeared.

Seema’s obsession with pulling things with teeth began when she was a nine-year-old. “I saw a picture of a Sikh pulling a train engine. That decided my course in life. I knew what I had to do,” Bhaduria says, “I tried picking up buckets with my teeth.”

Bhaduria claims that with the latest feat, she has broken the previous Guinness record for pulling a weight by teeth. And this is not the first time she has done something like this. She had earlier pulled a floating vessel in the New Mangalore port. That, too, weighed more than 400 tonnes.
