IT Was the 'dead' electing their mayor at the civic polls in Allahabad, on Tuesday. The voters' slip was issued to many dead people in Ward 73 (Malaviya Nagar) for the polling at Kalyani Devi Park.

What's more, some of them died more than ten years back, but still they found their places in the revised voters' list, while at the same time many alive residents' name got omitted from the list.
The revised voters' list, which was prepared after spending crores, was again full of anomalies, leaving a lot of scope for fake voting. Besides, containing wrong addresses, the voter list contained the names of late Satya Prakash Shukla, resident of 420 Malaviya Nagar (died in December 2000), late Bhola Nath of Ahiyapur (died about ten years back), late Vishambharnath (died about five months back in 2006), Ramkishor of Ahiyapur (died five years back and his family shifted to other place) and Santosh of 420 Malviya Nagar (died in January 2001).
Not only this, the father's and husband's name and the age of all these dead people was also wrongly indicated in the voter's list. The list also contained the two different names of a single person in the same house and area.
On the basis of this list, the candidates contesting corporator's election issued two to three sets of voter's slips to the houses in Malaviya Nagar locality.
Resident of Malviya Nagar Deepak Shukla said the voters' slip indicates that the revision of the voters' list was done only on papers.
Meanwhile, most of the presiding officers at polling booths allowed voters to cast their vote without checking their proof of identity.
