The incident took place at the basement of Dell’s office building in Sector 43 near Golf Course.

There were around 3,000 batteries in the room apart from 30 to 40 cans of kerosene.

“The incident could have been a big disaster had we not responded on time. There were around 10 fire brigades which were involved in the rescue operation and they took five rounds to bring water to douse the flames,” said a senior official from the fire department.

“The 10-storey building is visited by a number of employees and guests. It was immediately evacuated and the fire fighters brought the situation under control soon,” the official said, adding that it took around 90 minutes to douse the fire.

No one was hurt in the blaze which was suspected to have been triggered due to a short circuit, the fire department said. Some people said they encountered trouble while getting out of the building, especially from the top floors.
