Meanwhile, DIG Akhilesh Mehrotra while bringing this fact to the notice of the SSP, Vijay Singh Meena, through a missive has raised objections over the lackadaisical approach of station officers, circle officers and ASPs in taking preventive action against crime in the district.
The DIG's missive to the SSP under whose command the above officials were functioning says, following assessment of crime this year and its comparison with the crime in previous year it has been concluded that police officers were hardly taking interest in prevention of crime in the district.
He has directed the SSP to draw up a work plan and take effective steps in controlling crime against women in general and harassment of women under SC/ST category in particular. The SSP has also been directed to get a list of property related crime in the district committed during the past five years prepared under each police station and take effective preventive steps in all the cases.
The DIG has also directed the SSP to make assessment of crime under each police station in the district separately and take punitive action against the officials concerned for their failure including ASPs, circle officers and station officers.
A list of criminals with rewards on their head, mafia groups and listed gangs has also been sought to be prepared.
This includes identification of 20 hard core criminals and their arrest.It may be mentioned that senior officers of the district including the DGP made their reaction following assessment of crime in two phases.
In the first phase from 16.8 2006 to 31. 8. 2006 it was found that in comparison to the crime committed during last year in the above period crime this year under the same period had increased under certain heads. This includes theft, attempt to murder, harassment of women, murder of women, rape, dowry cases, chain snatching and crime against SC/ST.
In the second phase of assessment of crime from the beginning of the year till the end of August this year and its comparison with crime committed last year it was found that cases of burglary, arms and vehicle theft besides theft in general, inflicting critical injury, kidnapping for ransom, kidnapping in general, dowry murders, rape, molestation of women and their kidnapping, dowry related crime, chain snatching and rape of Dalit women have registered significant rise.
